Swimming At Royal Belum National Park

A true story, turned into a fable

Once upon a time, there was a girl. Her name was Yu, she had a mother, a father and 2 sisters, lived in sunny Singapore, and had a very privileged life. One day, she was at Royal Belum National Park for her school camp, and it wasn’t like anything she experienced before. There was no aircon, a lot of bugs, and even worse, no wifi. She was not the most enthusiastic person, all she wanted was to run back home and have a nice relaxing shower, where the water wasn't cold. However she did like one thing, the water. The water looked cold, and sometimes it looked as if there were crystals shining on the water!

Everyday at camp there was always time for water play, but she didn’t go on the first day, the second day, or the third day. The water looked very enjoyable to play in, but she didn’t want to go for one reason. She couldn’t swim. She could do the doggy paddle, but that was really it. Although the people provided life jackets so no one would drown, she didn’t want to take any chances.
Her friends kept on asking her to go swim with them, but she told them that she felt sick, so she couldn’t go. She was too scared to tell her friends the truth.
Now, it was the fourth day, the last day she could do water play. She realised that this was a once in a lifetime chance, and told her friends why she actually didn’t want to go swim. Her friends response surprised her. They were very supportive and told her they won’t let go of her hand, unless she wanted them to. She was very grateful to have friends like hers, but was still a bit nervous about swimming.
When it was time for water play, she and her friends all jumped into the water together, she was swimming! Well floating, but still the same idea. Yu was beyond happy, she felt ecstatic, she and her friend played until water play time was over. She was glad she faced her fears and had a great time.

There are a few morals in this story.
1st Moral - face your fears, there might be a good ending.
2nd Moral - the situation might look bad now, but there is going to be something positive.

Before the trek

A sports report on a girl, who is going to do a trek of a lifetime

sunny 30 °C

As the speed boats came to a stop, one by one, Year 9 Chatsworth International students, were jumping onto the land, to start their trek. And look, OMG, it’s really her! Yu Nyudo! Yu Nyudo, is a world class indoor person, known from everyone as "the girl, that isn't good at sports". We wonder, what brought Yu here, is she thinking of starting a new chapter in her life where she is known as the "sporty girl"? We will, find out.
Yu is at the end of the group trying to “casually” jump out of the boat, she is holding her tiny bottle of bug spray on her right hand, and her water bottle on her left hand. Her face looks determined to fight through the next 30mins of the trek, and oh, it looks like she has fallen to the ground. Yu did not seem to expect the fall from happening, and neither did her peers, as the ground is relatively flat. But somehow, everyone knew that this would happen to her. As she is also known by her peers and the rest of the world as, the world’s clumsiest person. Her friends offers her a hand, and she graciously accepts it. She quickly runs with her friend to catch up to the rest of the year group, this time, Yu is looking down to make sure she doesn’t trip on the ground again. After a long minute, they finally catch to the group, her face starts to pale, she looks towards the log. Oh! It's because she will have to walk across a log to get to the other side of the land to actually start the trek! And if she can’t walk across the log and falls into the pond, she will humiliate herself very badly. She starts to look around frantically, trying to find another way to get to the other side. The line is starting to get shorter and shorter, as more and more people are getting to the other side. Her head then looks towards something, the rocks! She is walking out of the line, towards the rocks, and hops on one rock to the other to get to the other side. She’s doing it! Wait she’s shaking! Nope, she looking good and bam, she makes it! She is doing a little victory jump!
Now she looks ready to start the trek, while the chances of her becoming a "sporty girl" is becoming slimmer and slimmer.

The waterfall at the end of the trek was very beautiful, but Yu seems to be trying to get her way back as quick as possible!

Eat it all (A parody of the song Shake It Off)

About a Steam Boat I ate at Malaysia

Screen_Sho.._4_54_49_PM.png

Eat it all (A parody of Shake it off)
I like to eat food
I haven’t eaten a Steam Boat
And I know what I’m going to do mmm-mm
And I know what I’m going to do mmm-mm

I’m in Malaysia
The home of the Steam Boat
And I know what I’m going to do mmm-mm
And I know what I’m going to do mmm-mm

So I’m going to
Can’t stop, won’t stop picking
All my ingredients for
The Steam Boat
Saying, “It’s going to taste alright.”

Cause the food isn’t gonna get waste, waste, waste, waste, wasted
And the people are all gonna like, like, like, like, it
Baby, I’m just gonna eat, eat, eat, eat, eat
I eat it all, I eat it all
The Steam Boat starts to boil, boil, boil, boil, boil
And I start adding the food, food, food, food, food
Baby, I’m just gonna eat, eat, eat, eat, eat
I eat it all, I eat it all

The Steam Boat is hot
We get our serving spoons
And that’s when we all look, mmm-mm
That’s when we all look, mmm-mm

I get my tofu (get my tofu)
Don’t forget the celtuce (the celtuce)
And that’s when we all look, mmm-mm
That’s when we all look, mmm-mm

We all look at the
The masterpiece of our
The Steam Boat
In my mind
Saying “It’s going to taste alright.”

Eat it all, I eat it all
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all

Hey, hey, hey
Just think while you’ve been complaining about the creaky beds and the creepy, creepy bugs in here,
You could’ve been getting down to this sick Steamboat.

While everyone is slurping the noodles, I go get a second
They’re like “Oh, my god”, but I’m just gonna eat.
And to the fella over there with the hella good food
Won’t you share now? We can eat, eat, eat

Yeah ohhh

Cause the food isn’t gonna get waste, waste, waste, waste, wasted
And the people are all gonna like, like, like, like, it
Baby, I’m just gonna eat, eat, eat, eat, eat
I eat it all, I eat it all
The Steam Boat starts to boil, boil, boil, boil, boil
And I start adding the food, food, food, food, food
Baby, I’m just gonna eat, eat, eat, eat, eat
I eat it all, I eat it all

Eat it all, I eat it all
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all,
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all,
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all

Eat it all, I eat it all
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all,
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all,
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all

Eat it all, I eat it all
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all (it’s too good),
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all,
I, I, I eat it all, I eat it all

A World Much Different To Mine

A photobook of my experience going to the Orang Asli Tribe

sunny 30 °C

A world much different to mine
Screen_Sho.._5_39_55_PM.png
A few weeks ago, I’ve got the opportunity to visit a tribe, the Orang Asli Tribe (a Malaysian word for the first people, or the original people), that lives in Royal Belum National Park, Malaysia. In my classes at school, I’ve learnt about tribes, and how they live differently to me, but I’ve never actually seen a tribe in real life.
Screen_Sho.._5_47_20_PM.png
This was a very important and eye-opening experience for me. These people live in huts made from leaves, wood, and bamboo.
Screen_Sho.._5_39_02_PM.pngScreen_Sho.._5_48_57_PM.png
Screen_Sho.._5_38_17_PM.png
They get their food by hunting, using a blow dart (the one in the picture), fishing, and they also make rice by cooking it inside bamboo leaves and heating it using fire. They make their own fire, by collecting pieces of wood from the jungle.
Screen_Sho.._5_56_57_PM.png
They really only have the basic necessities, in my opinion, this way of living is both hard, but also special. It will be hard because they always would have to adapt based on the changes happening around them. If there were a storm and finding food is hard, they will have to find a new source of food. However, I learnt over the past week I was there, even though I don’t have the internet, nor was I used to being far away from the "real world", it brought me closer to my friends, and to me that was very special.

To Have Another Life

A poem about different lives, and the problems they face

large_Screen_Sho.._8_38_21_PM.png
This is a side by side poem, I wrote from 3 perspectives.
Animals POV, a person living in a tribe's POV, and a teen's POV. When I went to the Orang Asli Tribe, it was a very informative and a different experience, however in the back of my mind, there was always a tiny voice saying that I shouldn't do this because it's wrong to barge into someone's home, when they don't even know you. I also wrote in an Animals POV because from my visit at the Royal Belum National Park, I learnt a lot about the animals that live there, and learned to appreciate them.
I think all 3 POVs have different problems or worries, but I think most of us, have one thing in common, the want to be treated equally, it could mean something different for different people or animals, but it is still the same goal.
